Mentorship - Engage Community

Sun Prairie Stories of Impact

During the last week of the mentoring program, participants enjoyed meals, mentorship, and engaging activities. A vibrant Juneteenth celebration attracted a diverse crowd, featuring exciting kickball and flag football games. The navigator team excelled, and fishing poles were prepared for an upcoming fishing program. Many families received pool passes for summer fun.

Community outreach efforts included promoting the youth mentoring program and distributing flyers for Pride Month. Five families graduated from the FAST program, and the Black History Month art project for the museum was completed.

A chance meeting with a local resident highlighted Navigator's positive impact, as he shared information about families in need of support. At the library, a senior patron engaged with staff about community health resources, leading to valuable referrals.

Activities for the kids included making rainbow-colored playdough, attending a performance of Cinderella, crafting jewelry, and visiting the Henry Vilas Zoo. They also enjoyed building volcanoes in the sandbox. Additionally, a conversation arose about the use of a problematic term among children.

An elderly couple complimented the program during a field trip, praising the well-behaved children and sharing their fond memories of Sun Prairie from 25 years ago.
